Cheat Sheets

Cheat Sheets are a good way of providing a quick reference (usually a single sheet) for anything, be it programming or development related, keyboard shortcuts for an application or even just a list of recipes or quick how to’s.

Cheatography is a site with several cheat sheets available for viewing online or downloading in PDF format. If you sign up, you can even create your own. The site was created by Dave Child, the developer of the website AddedBytes (formerly I Love Jack Daniels).

I am currently working on one for the Git Distributed Version Control System. Update: Git Cheat Sheet now available.

Other useful cheat sheet sites include:

  • devcheatsheet.com (lots here, for many different programming languages)
  • Cheat-Sheets.org (links to many different cheat sheets and references, not hosted at site)
I hope to add more cheat sheet sites to this post as I come across them.

25 jQuery Plugins to help with Responsive Layouts

The most popular topic of discussion at the moment is undoubtedly responsive layouts in web design. Instant WordPress

Instant WordPress is a complete standalone, portable WordPress development environment. It turns any Windows machine into a WordPress development server. It will even run from a USB stick.

It comes complete with it’s own built in Apache web server, PHP and MySQL installations that are started and stopped automatically. It is self-configuring, so it should not conflict with any software already running on your machine.

It can be installed as many times as you wish and deleted by simply removing the folder that it is running from. Nothing is left on your machine.

Inspiration: Fluid & Responsive Design

Awesome article over @ webdesignerwall.com on responsive & fluid design,  go check it out links below…

Responsive design all started with this article by Ethan Marcotte. Some people see it as a trend. But it is more than just a trend. It is a new design solution — it helps to resolve the design problems associated with the different resolutions and devices (desktop, laptop, tablet, and mobile). I’m giong to share a list of responsive sites that I feel are nicely done. I’ve categorized the list into two categories: Adaptive and Fluid & Responsive.

Foundation Responsive framework

Foundation is a very impressive and feature-rich framework for quickly prototyping + creating the production code.

The framework is responsive, works smoothly on all major browsers (including mobile) and completely open source. Foundation includes dozens of styles and elements to help you quickly put together clickable prototypes, that can then be adapted and styled into polished production code. Forms, buttons, tabs, all kinds of good stuff.

The Grid lets you quickly put together page layouts for mobile devices and the desktop. You don’t need two different sites — the Grid is built to create a rock-solid experience on all kinds of devices with the exact same markup.
